3/26/2023 0 Comments Richard reeder![]() Reeder argued in court filings that he should get probation because he only went in the Capitol to find water after getting pepper sprayed and faulted police for ineffectively guarding the building. These cases are being watched closely as more rioters learn their punishment for participating in a grave attack on American democracy, and the Justice Department has said it’ll seek harsher sentences for unrepentant defendants. Reeder is one of the rioters who pleaded guilty but remains defiant about key aspects of the January 6 insurrection. It says, “the United States expressly reserves its right to prosecute your client for any crime of violence … if in fact your client committed or commits such a crime of violence prior to or after the execution of this Agreement.” The plea deal prosecutors signed with Reeder gives the Justice Department a path to charge him with the alleged assault, if it chooses to. “The quick response to last minute discovery of images showing a suspected assault clearly shows the dedication by all involved.”Ī Justice Department spokesman declined to comment about the case or the new video. “The team are extremely grateful for all the challenging work the FBI and the DOJ are putting into each individual case and their willingness to accept the assistance from our community of researchers,” the group told CNN in a statement. Reeder is seeking a sentence of probation. Reeder’s attorney in court said that “on first blush, the clip is problematic” but said there might be other footage that could help his defense arguments. US District Judge Thomas Hogan said he was “concerned” about the new videos because Reeder was previously portrayed as “more as an observer than a participant” in the violence. ![]() He is now scheduled to be sentenced on October 8. Prosecutors planned to go forward with sentencing and request the maximum six-month jail term, but after reviewing more of the videos, they asked to delay the hearing. ![]() Prosecutors said during the truncated hearing that they notified the judge, as well as Reeder’s defense attorneys, about the new footage on Wednesday morning. 3/26/2023 0 Comments The fall o fman![]() But Satan questions and belittles God’s words to her. God was unmistakably clear about the way it would go if she rejected His will. He offered a different version of what would happen if she rejected the will of her Creator. To lure her away from devotion to the Creator, Satan called into doubt her way of looking at life and God. Her understanding to this point was based on the way her Maker explained things to her husband (Adam). He suggested to the woman (Eve) an alternative way of looking at reality. This is part of what happened when humans originally rejected their Creator’s will. It began with a competing truth-claim – a different way of seeing life and God (Genesis 3:1-6).Īn offer was made by a being identified later in Scripture as Satan. The one who changes his beliefs is likely preparing to change the way he lives. 7 specific consequences from the fall of humanity correspond significantly with 7 majors at our universities. In our fallen world, nakedness is a source of shame, which was not an emotion felt in the perfect Garden. God told Adam that he would return to the dust from which he was taken, as would all of his descendants.Īnd finally, because of the loss of innocence, man would be required to walk before God clothed. If we continue reading in Genesis we learn the third consequence of the fall: that the ground inside and outside of the Garden was cursed. In the Garden, Adam and Eve were able to talk to God, but after eating the fruit "God banished from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken" (Genesis 3:23). When Adam and Eve disobeyed God's commandment they lost their righteousness.Ī second effect was a physical separation from God. The first major effect, which we have talked about already, is that man became able to sin. In the most simple terms, Adam's fall made it so that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23) even though the initial sin wasn't our own, we are now able to to sin and therefore must die a mortal death in order to fulfill God's plan for us. It can be frustrating to understand why those of us on Earth now must still endure the punishments that Adam and Eve received when they sinned in the Garden. God didn't create beings that had sinned, but when Adam and Eve disobeyed His commandments they fell from their state of innocence and thus fell into a state of mortality where sin was possible. God returns to the garden to speak with Adam and Eve, but they "hid from the Lord among the trees of the garden" (Genesis 3:8) because their changed state allowed them to understand their sin. After they partook of the fruit, we learn that "the eyes of both of them were opened" (Genesis 3:7) and they understood their nakedness and guilt. In the Garden of Eden, God commanded Adam "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." (Genesis 2:16-17).Īdam and Eve eventually both did partake of the fruit. I think studying these three attributes of The Fall can help anybody understand a little more about the event. I don't think it's something that can fully be understood in a single study session, but I wanted to try and talk through the basics. The Fall of Man is a complicated and crucial part of Christianity. 3/26/2023 0 Comments Pdf merge split offlineLikewise, Icecream PDF Split & Merge also supports splitting PDF files by pages. The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day On the last pitch, the overconfident Casey strikes out swinging, ending the game and sending the crowd home unhappy. Casey is so sure of his abilities that he does not swing at the first two pitches, both called strikes. Both runners are now in scoring position and Casey represents the potential winning run. Surprisingly, Flynn hits a single, and Blake follows with a double that allows Flynn to reach third base. The next two batters (Flynn and Jimmy Blake) are perceived to be weak hitters with little chance of reaching base to allow Casey a chance to bat. However, Casey is scheduled to be the fifth batter of the inning, and the first two batters (Cooney and Barrows) fail to get on base. Both the team and its fans, a crowd of 5,000, believe that they can win if Casey, Mudville's star player, gets to bat. It has become one of the best-known poems in American literature.Ī baseball team from the fictional town of "Mudville" (the home team) is losing by two runs in its last inning. Featuring a dramatic narrative about a baseball game, the poem was later popularized by DeWolf Hopper in many vaudeville performances. It was first published anonymously in The San Francisco Examiner (then called The Daily Examiner) on June 3, 1888, under the pen name "Phin", based on Thayer's college nickname, "Phinney". 3/25/2023 0 Comments Beaked whale“That would be obvious, seeing flourishing populations to nothing in two years. “It’s not like we hear zero whales at the sites that were impacted by the oil spill,” says Simone Bauman-Pickering, a researcher at the Scripps Acoustic Ecology Laboratory. And what about marine mammal deaths three, five, or even twenty years after the spill? Chemicals in oil can cause illness, oil vapors can impact marine mammal breathing, and eating fish that have ingested oil can have health consequences, all of which are not immediate. Because of this, the number of marine mammals impacted is likely more than reported. But without basic numbers on how many beaked whales lived in the Gulf, researchers were powerless when it came to pinpointing exactly how the oil spill was affecting the whales.Īnimals that die offshore or in deep waters may never wash onto beaches and may go unaccounted for. These charismatic creatures have long captured the public’s hearts, and their oiled figures were easy to spot and photograph when they came to breathe at the water’s surface where oil slicks formed. When the Deepwater Horizon blowout and subsequent oil spill happened in April of 2010 some of the first images and headlines (after the tragic human loss) were about the impact on marine mammals. ![]() In the Gulf of Mexico, this became immediately apparent after the oil spill of 2010. Examples of whale and dolphin sounds:įor many parts of the world, population numbers for beaked whales are questionable or sorely lacking. Each species of beaked whale sends out a unique frequency that scientists can use like a fingerprint to estimate how many individuals of a specific species are in a given area. Just like dolphins, beaked whales send pulses of high-frequency sound through the water that work like a SONAR ping to find prey in the dark waters of the deep. “One of the best tools we have to locate whales and dolphins in the Gulf is sound.” “Trying to study life at 1,000 meters below the surface of the ocean renders you almost completely blind,” explains Kait Frasier, Assistant Project Scientist at the Scripps Whale Acoustics Lab. The researchers can estimate how many beaked whales of a specific species pass through a given area using acoustic monitoring tools, and they hope to learn even more about the behavior of these whales-specifically, when and how they feed. ![]() Andrews University, and the Scripps Acoustic Ecology Lab have made significant progress developing methods that can answer questions about not only beaked whales, but other whales and dolphins that we can’t easily see from a ship on the sea’s surface. In part through a study funded by the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative, a group of researchers from the Scripps Whale Acoustics Lab, the Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling at St. How then can we understand more about these elusive creatures? Plus, the many different species of beaked whale (there are over 20) look frustratingly similar. Even worse, these shy and ship-wary marine mammals only need a quick breath at the surface to spend the next 40 minutes underwater diving for squid and fish. Their similarity to dolphins may create some of the confusion, but another reason why they seem so obscure is that their preferred swimming grounds are far offshore. When compared to dolphins and large baleen whales, beaked whales lose a bit of the limelight. 3/25/2023 0 Comments Indigo 7 career![]() The cookie is used to store the user consent for the cookies in the category "Other.
